Step 2 Projects - Goal to serve over 200 children by end of 2010 What is a Step 2 Project? Southern Cross Humanitarian is committed to implementing long term solutions for children-at-risk through humanitarian projects. We focus on basic needs as the priority as children require these for the foundation of personal growth and development. Our objective is to enhance the ability of children so they can more fully acquire the skills and tools needed to become positive contributing members of their communities. Step 2 projects all utilize one or more elements:
Current Step 2 Projects:
This small village, comprised of about 1000 people (about 200 children) and located high in the Andean Mountains, desperately needs help with their two small schools, an elementary and a preschool. They are solely responsible for the education of their children. Neither of the schools has electricity. The goal is to connect the existing power lines to the schools and install power jacks to each school while also finishing bathrooms for the elementary school, which has none. Finishing the bathrooms for the elementary school will give the children a sanitary place to clean, and the ability to function more effectively at school. The Peruvian government has implemented TV courses to supplement teaching specifically for small villages, so there is a lot of educational material on T.V. Electricity would be very helpful to increase and diversify grade level appropriate instruction for each individual student. For more information, and the opportunity to support Step 2 projects, please go to: Sponsor-A-Project |
