My Life By Purfita (Translated by Colleen Burns, our 2007 Summer School teacher)
Who am I? I am Purfita. I am seven years old and I like piggies. I also like tomatoes. I am a good girl.
Before The Sunflower I was born in Urubamba. I grew up with my mom, dad, and my brother Felipe. I came here in December. My brother Felipe brought me because we were suffering.
Now I live at The Sunflower. Here, I have jackets, television and clothes. Every day, we play, work, clean our rooms, and go to class. Here, I feel happy.
What is The Sunflower? The Sunflower is a very beautiful home with good parents. The Sunflower is important because there are many good children. I like this place because it is very beautiful with colorful plants.
My Future After high school, I want to go to the United States to study. I also want to have a lot of animals, a mother, and a house.

Happy Holidays Dear Friends!
 All of us at Southern
Cross Humanitarian would like to thank each of you for a wonderful
year. We've helped more than 500 children in Peru and Colombia and
have laid important groundwork for opening our new Drop-in Center in Ecuador. What a gift to
work with people who always remember "the most important things, are
not things". The photo is of children from our Colombia Drop-in Centers who wish to say "Feliz Navidad" to all who help them.

Holiday Cheer Sunflower Style!
Christopher would like to send a juicy holiday kiss to all those who have given time, talents, nickels and dimes to help the Children of Southern Cross Humanitarian and a special thanks to the Sorenson Foundation for their grant to put "Play In Their Day".
This year each child has made tremendous progress at school and with their personal journey. The children meet with Professor Maria and our interns each day after school to catch up in school and improve their skills. Each child has chores on the farm, in the kitchen and in their rooms. Cultural dancing and music lessons are also part of their week, as well as learning how to serve and give back to their communities.
All you December Expedition folks are going to get to celebrate New Years Sunflower Style! It will be a fiesta of a lifetime. Have fun! See more information about Expeditions.

Funding Futures Update!
Exciting news for all of our children! Last month Southern Cross went to Peru and met with business, political, and educational leaders to create new and lasting partnerships to help all our children, now and into the future, thanks to Alberto Puertas, the International Advising Coordinator for BYU and member of the Southern Cross Advisory Board. Our four oldest boys, Adriel, Wilfredo, Hilario and Carlos (shown above) were interviewed and all have placements in summer workshops/internships before they begin their last year of school. Adriel wants to work helping to end poverty. Wilfredo is interested in being an electrician. Hilario and Carlos both have their hearts set on soccer and professional careers. (Carlos leads his class with particularly high scores in math.)
To find out how you can help our children's futures, please see Funding Futures or contact laura@sxhu.org. |
