The Life of Nancy by Nancy Garcia Perez
(Dictated to & translated by Summer School Teacher Colleen Burns)
Who am I? I am Nancy. I am ten years old and my birthday is April 5th. I am going to eat cake! My favorite colors are red, brown, blue, and yellow. My favorite foods are chicken and noodles. I like to study and one of my favorite books is Coquito.
Before The Sunflower I was born in the city of Miraflores and I grew up in Urubamba with relatives. Once when I was in the church, my Papi Juan told my relatives about The Sunflower and my Uncle Carlos brought me here.
Now I live at The Sunflower with all of my brothers and sisters and Papi Juan and Mami Delia and my Aunt Colleen. She teaches us math and language. In the afternoon, we read books outside in the grass. My favorite book is Osito de Oro and I feel good here.

What is The Sunflower? I live well at The Sunflower with my brothers and sisters. The Sunflower is important because we have everything to eat, places to sleep and Papi Juan and Mami Delia. I like The Sunflower.
My Future When I grow up, I want to sing songs. I also want to be a teacher and I want to visit my family and go to the United States to learn English.

· We LOVE our interns!
Currently Sarah Hess and Alexis Reintjes are helping at the Sunflower
home. We thank them for their efforts, their time and the love
bestowed daily upon each of the children in all our behalf.
· What a TREAT! Warmest thanks goes to Nancy Whittingham, Laura Heming and Claire Bedard for their recent visit to the Sunflower home, bringing LOADS of ESL materials and a presentation on Incan healing arts for the children. (Thanks for taking the treats down for the interns as well! They said being with these women was like having an early Christmas!)
· The first HPV Vaccinations were given to all the girls at the Sunflower Home thanks to Ron and Katherine Alcatraz for the funding, Leo Gavancho for making this happen and Daron Ferris, MD President, CerviCusco for their services.
· White Oak Primary School, a Pre-K through 2nd grade campus located in the "Piney Woods" of East Texas, gets a BIG thanks for sharing all their extra materials with Southern Cross. Thanks to Laura & Michael Benson for making this happen, and Federal Express for their free shipping!
