About Us

box Our Mission: Bridging cultures to help establish long-term solutions for children-at-risk in South America.
Working with volunteers to enrich the lives of children-at-risk, Southern Cross:

  • Facilitates humanitarian expeditions to Peru, Colombia & Ecuador
  • Sponsors children, schools and projects
  • Provides internships working on-on-one with children
box Why We Exist:
A great number of children in South America live in extreme poverty, with less than one dollar a day to survive. With little food, schooling, hygiene training, and/or medical care, there is little hope for a better tomorrow, just a constant cycle of extreme poverty. These children-at-risk often turn to the streets, succumbing to desperate measures such as sex or labor trafficking, criminal delinquency, substance abuse, and/or drug rings, just to access basic needs.

We cannot solve the problem for millions, but Southern Cross Humanitarian, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, can put in place preventive measures, for children in Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. By providing the basics, with support, we create avenues for children to break the cycle of poverty through food in schools, education materials, hygiene training, volunteer medical care and one-on-one mentoring to help develop personal skills rather than look to the streets for solutions.
Chakana
box Our Logo:
The red Andean cross with the hole in the center is called "Chakana". This Incan representation of the Southern Cross constellation was described as the symbolic power to "puentear" or "to bridge" heaven and earth. Today, Southern Cross Humanitarian uses the Chakana as our symbol as we bridge cultures - extending our reach from those who have to those who have not.
